One liter of petrol was being sold at Rs 106.31 in Mumbai and Rs 96.72 in Delhi.

fuel price in India remained stable for another day on Tuesday, January 25. Petrol and diesel prices in the country have remained unchanged for more than seven months. State-owned oil companies, set to recover from losses suffered over the last few quarters, have kept the cost of the two primary automotive fuels in the country unchanged. The last time the needle moved on these prices was because the Center reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel on May 21 last year.

As per the latest price notification by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in India, a liter of petrol was being sold for Rs 106.31 in the country’s financial capital Mumbai. The price was close in Kolkata, where the fuel was selling at Rs 106.03 per litre. People in Chennai paid Rs 102.63 for the same quantity of petrol, while people in Delhi spent Rs 96.72 for the same.

Among India’s four metros, diesel was the cheapest in Delhi, retailing at Rs 89.62 per litre. One liter of diesel is being sold at Rs 92.76 in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, while it costs Rs 94.24 in Chennai. The cost of a liter of diesel in Mumbai was just a few paise ahead of Chennai. Here the cost of fuel per liter is Rs 94.27 to the people.

Any change in the price of petrol and diesel is announced every day at six in the morning. Several factors influence the state-to-state variation in fuel prices, including value-added tax (VAT), freight costs, municipal taxes and others.
