New Delhi: The hike in fuel prices is going to further trouble the common man as petrol became costlier by 34-35 paise and diesel by 28-30 paise after the latest hike on Tuesday. Fuel prices were revised on Tuesday after a one-day halt.
Petrol in Delhi touched an all-time high of Rs 98.81 per liter, while diesel touched Rs 88.18 per litre. With the recent revision, the price of petrol in Mumbai is close to a record high of Rs 105, with petrol being sold at Rs 104.90 and diesel at Rs 96.72 per liter in the city.

In Chennai, petrol is priced at Rs 99.80 per liter and diesel is being sold at Rs 93.72 per liter, while the current hike has brought petrol price to Rs 98.64 per liter and diesel to Rs 92.03 per liter in Kolkata.
The recent spike in fuel prices since May 4 has seen petrol cross the Rs 100 mark in various cities across the country including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. .
In fact, buying petrol in major Indian cities like Mumbai will cost almost twice as much as in New York. According to Bloomberg, record-high fuel prices are burning a hole in the pocket as many Indian car owners are unable to afford the cost of using their vehicles, which could lead to turmoil in the transport industry.
Fuel prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges. Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel in the country.

In May, Bhopal was the first state capital where petrol crossed the three-digit mark, followed by Jaipur and Mumbai. Hyderabad and Bengaluru also joined the list of states last week where petrol has touched psychological milestones.
