IOC Member and Reliance Foundation chairperson Mrs Nita Ambani congratulated the 26-year-old for his second Olympic medal.

“Congratulations, Neeraj Chopra, for winning Silver in Javelin at the Paris Games,” Mrs Ambani said.

Mrs Ambani also lauded the athlete for rallying the nation with his performances and lifting the spirit of the country with his success.

“You have once again uplifted the spirit of an entire nation and made every Indian proud,” she added.

Mrs Ambani reflected on Chopra’s journey to the top from humble origins and termed it an inspiration for all to try and emulate.

“Your story – starting from Shivaji Stadium in Panipat to the Stade de France in Paris – is a beacon of hope and inspiration for every athlete and for all of us,” she continued.

Chopra joined an elite list of names to pick up two Olympic medals and Mrs Ambani asserted that his accomplishments and feats would be remembered fondly for generations to come.

“You will be remembered for generations to come as a true legend of Indian athletics. Wishing you even greater success and glory in the years ahead,” she concluded.

Chopra started off with a foul throw, before registering his best effort on the second attempt. The thrower from Khandra tried to go one-up on Nadeem’s monstrous effort of 92.97m, an Olympic record, in his follow-up throws, but could only manage to court red flags on his final four attempts.

However, Chopra’s only legal throw of the day was enough to ensure that the Indian would pick up the silver medal.
