From S Rajamouli to B Gopal, directors who learned art under the great Raghavendra Rao

Legendary Telugu director K Raghavendra Rao needs no introduction. The living legend has a career spanning four decades, during which he directed over 100 films, leaving his mark for generations to come. Beginning his career in 1975, he has worked through five generations of stars. These include NTR and ANR, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna, Mahesh Babu, Jr., NTR and Allu Arjun. He is known to have a long association with some of the biggest stars of Telugu cinema.

He is inducting and launching people like Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu, Jr NTR and female actors including Sridevi, Ramya Krishna and Jaya Prada. His work is limited to one language and Rao has given hits in Hindi cinema as well. His films in the 80s included Himmatwala, Justice Choudhary, Jani Dost, Farz and Kanoon etc.

Rao is one of the most successful directors in the history of Indian films. He has given amazing movies not only to the Indian audience but also to some amazing directors. Some of the top directors of today’s time have been his assistants. These include B Gopal, Chandrasekhar, Kondandaram Reddy, YVS Choudhary and SS Rajamouli. In return these directors have not only done justice to the name of their mentor but have also enhanced the prestige of his name.

SS Rajamouli, one of the country’s most celebrated directors due to films like Baahubali, began directing soap operas in Telugu under the guidance of K Raghavendra Rao. Viewers are now eagerly waiting for RRR, which will release in January next year and stars Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Ajay Devgn.
