From Prabhas’ Adipurush to Kangana Ranaut’s Sita: Movies inspired by the epic Ramayana

The popularity of Doordarshan’s shows Mahabharat and Ramayan, as well as their triumphant re-telecast during the COVID-19 lockdown, shows the interest of Indian audiences towards the genre. B-town directors have also always been inspired by mythological texts. Several new films have been announced, featuring stories that seem to be influenced by epics. not only Bollywood Actors, but even actors from South Indian cinema seem to be attracted to epics these days.

Lone man

Om Raut’s latest film after last year’s success is Aadipurush Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The mythological Ramayana Manzil will be shown in the film. Prabhas will play the character of Lord Ram. Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon also appear in the flick in the roles of Raavan and Sita respectively. It is scheduled to release on 11 August 2022.

Ramayana

Madhu Mantena’s Ramayana has been making headlines for a long time. The project is directed by Dangal’s Nitesh Tiwari, along with ‘Mom’ director Ravi Udayavar, and written by Sridhar Raghavan. The film will be a trilogy and has already garnered a lot of attention due to its casting and production. While the cast of the film is yet to be announced, Deepika Padukone as Sita and Hrithik Roshan as Raavan are rumored to feature in this mega-budget flick. When asked about the cast of the film, Matena said in an interview that the cast will be announced around Diwali this year.

Ram Setu

Akshay Kumar will be seen in a new personality in the film, which focuses on the principles of Lord Rama. Produced by Kumar’s Cape of Good Films, the film is directed by Abhishek Sharma. According to reports, the actor has sought permission from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to shoot the film in Ayodhya.

Sita

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been roped in to play the role of Goddess Sita in an upcoming film based on the mythological character from the epic Ramayana.

The period drama will be directed by Alaukik Desai and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad. The film will be released in five languages.
