Superstars like NTR, Nagarjuna and Nani have entertained the masses with television shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati and the Telugu version of Bigg Boss. Recently, actor Daggubati Venkatesh was shooting for a Netflix series with his elder brother Rana. The title of the web series is “Rana Naidu”. Megastar Chiranjeevi is also reportedly contemplating getting into a web series.
Telugu heroes are currently in a phase where they are constantly changing and rediscovering themselves. The biggest reason behind this is that in the current environment all the film industries are facing stiff competition from OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon, Zee5 and Hotstar. Along with this, the actors also want to test their luck on video-streaming platforms. The trend continues in Bollywood as well where big stars like Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte regularly feature in web series. Superstar Akshay Kumar is also in talks to stream a series on Amazon Prime.
However, big stars have not shown much interest in OTT platforms till recently. But with the Covid-19 pandemic forcing the closure of cinemas across the world, OTT has emerged as the messiah of the cash-strapped film industry.
Jagapathi Babu and Srikanth have already worked in web shows named ‘Gangster’ and ‘Shatranj’ respectively. Reports suggest that Allu Aravind is already planning a series with Chiranjeevi for the Aaha platform. Chiranjeevi is currently in the process of allotting dates for this web series along with shooting for films together. Needless to say, all his fans are waiting for the big announcement.
