Fateh Singh, who had longed to return to his homeland, was met with an unexpected and unsettling situation when he arrived at the Delhi airport.

Fateh Singh, a 71-year-old NRI who had been living in London since 2002, found himself at the centre of a major immigration case upon arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on August 23. Singh, who had longed to return to his homeland, was met with an unexpected and unsettling situation when he arrived at the Delhi airport via Air India flight AI-166.

Singh had moved to London to pursue his dreams and had avoided returning to India for over two decades due to a problematic past. He hoped that the passage of time would obscure his previous transgressions. However, the reality proved otherwise when he was intercepted by immigration authorities upon his arrival.

The trouble began when Singh’s passport was checked through the immigration software ‘Pride.’ The system displayed a blank travel history for Singh, prompting further scrutiny by the immigration officers. During the subsequent interrogation, it was revealed that Singh had used a fraudulent passport to enter London in 2002. Singh admitted to the deception, acknowledging that he had arrived in London by using someone else’s passport.

Singh was promptly taken into custody by the Bureau of Immigration and handed over to the IGI Airport Police for further investigation. He now faces charges under sections 319 (2) and 318 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Further investigation led the police to arrest Sukhdev Singh from Kaithal, Haryana, who was allegedly involved in helping Singh obtain the fraudulent passport. Inspector Sumit and his team are continuing their investigation into the case.
