Renowned Tamil folk singer Ramani Ammal passed away on April 4 following a heart attack in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She was 69 years old. Ramani is fondly known as ‘Rockstar’ Ramani Ammal for his power-packed stage shows. In 2017, she rose to fame in the Tamil music industry through the reality series ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Seniors’ on Zee TV. As a result of his sudden demise, several film personalities and the Tamil music industry expressed condolences and videos of him singing in performance are being widely shared by his fans.
Earlier, Ramani Ammal made her debut as a singer in the 2004 love story ‘Kaadhal’ which was followed by a few other films like ‘Kathavarayan’ and ‘Thenvattu’ in 2008. Despite this, Ramani Ammal reportedly did not get much opportunity and continued to earn her livelihood as a domestic help. However, Ramani had no plans of looking back after her phenomenal win on the reality TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Seniors in 2017. Thereafter, he sang songs for Sandakozhi 2 in 2018, Vijay Sethupathi starrer Janga in 2018. Suriya starrer Kaappaan in 2019 and Nenjamundu Nirmayundu Odu Raja in 2019. In addition, she appeared in stage performances in Sri Lanka, Singapore and the US. Meanwhile, Ramani also played a small role in the Tamil television series Yaaradi Nee Mohini.
The Rockstar singer had performed a song in the recently released film Bommai Nayagi, starring Yogi Babu. Coming from humble beginnings, Ramani Ammal showed how ability and perseverance can help a person become successful. Due to lack of income in her early days, despite working as a domestic help, Ramani Ammal used to sing in temple festivals. With the song Thandatti Karuppayi from the film Kadhal, he got a chance to sing in films.
