Free vote-collection culture ‘very dangerous’ for country: PM Modi inaugurating Bundelkhand Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Saturday cautioned people against the “Rewari culture” of giving free gifts to people for votes and said it is “very dangerous” for the development of the country. The Prime Minister used ‘Rewari’, a popular North Indian sweet, often distributed during festivals, as a metaphor for giving away freebies by various parties to grab power and said that people, especially Young people should definitely avoid this.

Addressing a gathering here after inaugurating the 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway constructed at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore, Modi said that this expressway would not only give speed to vehicles, but would also accelerate the industrial progress of the entire Bundelkhand. He said the distance from Chitrakoot to Delhi has been reduced by three-four hours by the Bundelkhand Expressway, but its benefits are more than that and attacked the previous governments in Uttar Pradesh for lack of connectivity.

He said the “double engine” government is now increasingly ensuring a major transformation of the state with better connectivity and better law and order. Modi stressed that no such work should be done which is not related to the present aspirations of the country and a better future.

The thinking behind every decision and policy should be to accelerate the development of the country, the Prime Minister said, adding that it should be ensured that everything that harms and negatively affects the country’s development is kept away. Modi said that the country has got a very good opportunity for development and it should not let it go.

“We have to ensure maximum development in this era and take the country to new heights and build a new India,” he said. Modi said new India A challenge also has to be faced which, if ignored now, will be harmful to this generation.

“Your present will be lost and your future will be thrown into darkness. It is important to be vigilant”, he said. Today, efforts are being made to bring a culture of collecting votes by distributing Rewari in our country. This ‘Rewari culture’ is important for the development of the country. Very dangerous. The people of the country and especially the youth need to escape from this culture.

He said people who indulge in ‘Rewari culture’ will never build new expressways, airports and defense corridors. People with ‘Rewari culture’ think that they will buy people by distributing ‘Rewari’ for free. We have to defeat this thinking of them together. ‘Rewari culture’ has to be removed from the country’s politics.’

Modi’s remarks were targeted at parties which are resorting to freebies especially ahead of elections. “Departing from the Rewari culture, we are focusing on fulfilling the aspirations of the people by building new roads and railways,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that crores of pucca houses are being built for the people, dams are being built and irrigation schemes are being implemented to make the lives of the poor and farmers easier. He said that BJP’s “double engine” governments are not taking shortcut of ‘Rewari culture’ but working hard for better future of their state.

Modi said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a big change with better law and order and rapid reforms. BJP leaders use the term “double engine” to refer to the party being in power at the Center and in the state.

Modi said that at the core of the development path on which the country is moving, there are two aspects – ‘intention and dignity’. He said, we are creating new facilities not only for the present but also the future of the country.

The Bundelkhand Expressway passes through seven districts of Uttar Pradesh and has been built at a cost of about Rs 14,850 crore. Officials said the time taken by the Bundelkhand Expressway from Chitrakoot to Delhi would now be six hours. Adityanath welcomed Modi by presenting him a local Bundeli stole at the inauguration ceremony at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district.

Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the expressway on February 29, 2020.
