The men’s football tournament will begin on July 22, a day before the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Games, with Egypt and Spain up against each other in the first game. In the 2020 Tokyo Games, 16 qualified teams will be pitted against each other to win Olympic gold. Brazil are the defending champions and will open the tournament against Germany on Thursday.
Top European teams like England, Portugal, Belgium and Italy will be missing out on the prestigious event. In his absence, Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Spain and France are counted among the favorites for podium finishes.
The prestigious event will be played at six different venues in Japan – Kashima, Rifu, Saitama, Sapporo, Tokyo and Yokohama, with the summit taking place on August 7 at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
