Four terrorists of Jamaat-e-Mujahideen Bangladesh arrested in Bhopal

In a major development, the Madhya Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested four terror suspects from two areas of state capital Bhopal. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that during a special operation carried out by the MP Police, the authorities arrested four terrorists belonging to the banned terror outfit Jamaat-e-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The MP police said in a release that they have been identified as Fazhar Ali, Mohammad Aqueel, Zahooruddin and Fazhar Zainul, all natives of Bangladesh.

Sources claimed that two operatives were arrested in a surprise raid from Aishbagh area in the early hours, while two others were later nabbed from Karond area on their inputs.

MP ATS has submitted the report to DGP Madhya Pradesh Sudhir Saxena after the arrest. The DGP had called a high-level meeting on the issue in the presence of senior officials. Around 50 personnel of police and security agencies were involved in the operation.

Incriminating material including jihadi literature, electronic gadgets and suspicious documents were recovered from their possession, Mishra said, adding that more details will be shared as they disclose enough information during interrogation.

The henchmen were creating a remote-based sleeper cell to channelize anti-national activities. The statement said that literature and other articles found in the possession of the operatives show that they are active members of Jamaat-e-Mujahideen Bangladesh.

Activists from Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh were involved in the Burdwan blasts that killed two people in 2014 and the Bodbagaya blasts. The organization was banned by the Center in 2019 under the anti-terrorism law UAPA. Officials said members of the organization were preparing to set up a base, sleeper cell, and were planning major attacks.
