Four arrested for lynching of Dalit man from Rajasthan over love affair

Four persons have been arrested and a minor has been detained for allegedly lynching a Dalit man over a love affair in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh. The incident took place on October 7 in Prempura area of ​​Hanumangarh where the accused beat up Jagdish till he died. The accused also made a video of the entire incident in which they are seen giving water to the victim and then repeatedly beating her with sticks. Police said that efforts are on to arrest the other accused.

DGP ML Lather said in a statement that an amount of Rs 4.12 lakh has been approved by the District Collector as compensation. The arrested people have been identified as Mukesh Kumar Ode, Dilip Kumar, Sikandar and Hansraj.

BSP supremo Mayawati took to Twitter to corner the ruling Congress over the incident. “It is sad and condemnable to beat a Dalit to death in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan but why is the Congress high command silent? Will the CMs of Punjab and Chhattisgarh go there and help the victim’s family with Rs 50 lakh? BSP wants answers, otherwise stop shedding crocodile tears in the name of Dalits.

ADGP (Crime) Ravi Prakash said the victim Jagdish Meghwal had an affair with his neighbor’s wife. She got separated from her husband due to family dispute and on October 7, Jagdish had gone to meet the woman in a rented house in Suratgarh.

On learning this, her husband and 10 others kidnapped Jagdish from Suratgarh and took him to a farm house and beat him with sticks. Later the accused threw Jagdish outside his residence.

The official said the family could have taken action had Jagdish succumbed to his injuries. He said that a case has been registered under sections of kidnapping, murder and SC/ST Act. Rawatsar DSP has been entrusted with the investigation of the case.
