Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Launches Twitter Alternative Bluesky

New Delhi: Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey is back in the social media game with the launch of his own Twitter alternative called BlueSky which is now available in the Apple App Store in a testing phase. The Twitter-funded micro-blogging platform is available as an invite-only beta right now, and a public launch is imminent, reports TechCrunch.

According to app intelligence firm data.ai, the Bluesky iOS app launched on February 17 and has been installed nearly 2,000 times in the testing phase. The Discover tab in the bottom center of the app’s navigation is useful, providing more “who to follow” suggestions and a feed of recently posted BlueSky updates. According to the report, “Another tab lets you check your notifications, including likes, reposts, follows and replies, also just like on Twitter. There are no DMs.”

You can discover and follow other people, such as on Twitter, then see their updates in the Home timeline. User profile consists of a profile picture, background, bio and metrics.

The Bluesky project originated in 2019 with Twitter, but the company was founded in 2022 as an independent company focused on decentralized social network R&D. After leaving Twitter, Dorsey spoke about BlueSky, describing it as “an open decentralized standard for social media.”

In October last year, Dorsey posted on Twitter that Bluesky intended to be a “competitor to any company trying to own the underlying fundamentals for social media or the data of the people who use it”.

BlueSky received $13 million in funding last year with Dorsey on its board.
