He was diagnosed with stage IV malignancy in his oral cavity and was undergoing treatment first in Mumbai and then in Chennai, when the high court first granted him first interim bail in September last year and permanent bail in August this year. Maderna breathed his last at around 6.30 am at his Jodhpur residence.

“Today around 6.30 am, he breathed his last at his home. Now he will be taken to his native village Chadi in Osian subdivision of Jodhpur and his last rites will be performed in the evening,” said Ram Prakash, a family friend.

Maderna returned to Jodhpur during the Panchayat elections and was at home since then. He was undergoing treatment at home.
Maderna, son of the late Parasram Maderna of Congress, was sacked on October 16, 2011, days after he was arrested for his alleged role in the kidnapping and murder of an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) Bhanwari Devi in 2011. was in custody. From then till he got bail in August.
