Days after a major diplomatic dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the alleged kidnapping of the daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Islamabad, a former Pakistani diplomat’s daughter was killed here on Wednesday, according to a media report. According to the Dawn newspaper report, Noor Mukadam, 27-year-old daughter of Shaukat Mukadam, was found dead on Tuesday in the expensive Sector F-7/4 area of the capital. Mukadam has previously served as Pakistan’s ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan.
The daily quoted police as saying that Noor died of bullet injuries. Police said a friend of Noor has been arrested in connection with the murder.
Sama TV quoted Islamabad police as saying that a person named Zaheer Jafar, who was allegedly involved in the murder, was arrested on the spot and taken to the police station. The killing comes as a storm over the security of diplomatic missions and its personnel in Pakistan.
The Afghanistan Foreign Office said in a statement last week that on July 16, Silsila Alikhil, the 26-year-old daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, Najibullah Alikhil, was briefly abducted and tortured from Islamabad. The incident sparked a major diplomatic row between the two neighboring countries, which are facing a resurgence of the Taliban as the US and NATO reach the final stages of their troop campaign.
Pakistan has vehemently denied the allegations made by Afghanistan, saying that the police in Islamabad has not found any supporting evidence of the alleged kidnapping.
