Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura will rejoin the SAD on Thursday. Brahmpura is the patron of the SAD (Sanyukt).

Akali (United) general secretary Karnail Singh Peermohammed said on Wednesday that Brahmpura would rejoin the SAD on Thursday in the presence of Akali leader Parkash Singh Badal. He said senior party vice-president Ujagar Singh Wadali would also join the SAD.

Peermohammed said that a decision in this regard was taken on Wednesday evening. He said that he is against the arrangement of alliance or seat-sharing with the BJP for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Presently Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa is the President of SAD (United). Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the BJP was in talks with former Punjab chief ministers Amarinder Singh and Dhindsa for an electoral alliance.

Recently, the BJP announced its alliance with Singh’s party, Punjab Lok Congress, for the upcoming assembly elections. Former MP Brahmapura was expelled from the SAD in 2018 after raising the flag of rebellion against the party leadership.

Thereafter, he started his own party, SAD (Taksali). Dhindsa had also floated his own party SAD (Democratic) after being expelled by the Akali Dal in 2020.

Brahmapura and Dhindsa joined hands this year after dissolving their respective organizations and formed SAD (United). Punjab assembly elections are due early next year.
