Since making his international debut against South Africa in February 2010, Saha has played 40 Tests and nine ODIs for India.
Star wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, who last played for Team India in December 2021, took to X on Sunday (November 3) to announce his retirement plans. According to the 40-year-old Bengal-based cricketer, who has played in 40 Tests and nine ODIs for Team India so far, the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy will be his last.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha posted on X.

Saha, who is one of the finest wicketkeeper-batters India has ever produced, made his international debut against South Africa during a Test match played in Nagpur from February 6 to 9 in 2010. He served as MS Dhoni’s deputy in the five-day format of the game for many years before getting a chance to play on a regular basis after Dhoni called time on his Test career in December 2014.
In 40 Tests for India, with the help of three centuries and six fifties, Saha has scored 1353 runs. He has also played nine ODIs from 2010 to 2014 and scored 41 runs in five innings.
Despite losing place in the Indian team, Saha is a regular feature in the Indian Premier League and is one of the few players who has played in all 17 editions of the cash-rich league. He was associated with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024 and has also played for CSK, KKR, SRH, and Punjab Kings in the past.
Saha has 2934 runs to his name in 170 IPL matches for five teams, and he is one of the two batters to score a century in the IPL final. During the 2014 IPL final played between KKR and Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), Saha hammered 115 runs for the George Bailey-led side but his effort went in vain after Manish Pandey’s 94-run knock helped KKR chase down the target of 200 runs in 19.3 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Saha represented Bengal in domestic cricket from 2007 to 2022 before joining Tripura for two years after having fallen out with a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official. He, however, returned to play for Bengal again in August 2024.
