‘Forget Friday The 13th…’: Heavy Rains Trigger Traffic Chaos In Delhi NCR – News18

Parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon, causing waterlogging and disruptions in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert earlier in the day, warning residents of intense weather conditions. The IMD advisory cautioned of potential disruptions in air, rail and road transportation, as well as possible power outages in some areas. On Friday morning, moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi-NCR, leaving several regions of the city severely waterlogged.

Delhi residents took to social media to share visuals of the weather-related chaos.

Sharing pictures/videos from the capital city, a user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Heavy rainfall in Delhi. The rain just won’t stop.” The visuals show incessant rainfall and some areas already waterlogged.

A car was seen moving through a few metres of water in images from Munirka, Delhi.

“Delhi skies looked like this before the rain. It’s completely dark and drenched now”, wrote another user.

Meanwhile, the situation is no better in Gurgaon. Visuals trending on X from the city show heavy downpours and waterlogged streets.

In a video, cars are seen navigating a flooded roadway with at least some of the vehicles’ tyres entirely submerged in water.

An X user said, “A hovercraft is the perfect commuter vehicle for Gurgaon” indicating the rising water levels on roads making it difficult to commute.

This user pointed out the Friday The 13th connection and wrote, “Forget Friday the 13th horror movies. Just try driving in Delhi rain.”

“Gurgaon is going to drown”, said another user.

Even the late-night rain flooded a number of roadways, creating significant traffic blockages that hindered transportation around Delhi. Movement around the city was halted by the rain that fell between 2:30 AM and 5:30 AM, submerging numerous roadways. Through social media, the Delhi Traffic Police kept the public informed, offering diversion suggestions and posting pictures of the flooded streets.

According to the advice, waterlogging at GGR PDR caused traffic to be disrupted on NH-48 across the roadway from Dhaula Kuan to Mahipalpur. The overflow of sewage water at Paras Chowk caused traffic movement on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, the highway that runs from Kalkaji to Defence Colony, to be impeded, it added further.

Heavy rains are expected to continue over the weekend, as per IMD.
