Such areas are more prone to spread of COVID-19 due to higher population density. Therefore to deal with any possibility of such an incident, the Central Government has considered it important to vaccinate all eligible persons.

“In a landmark initiative to ensure protection from COVID-19, the Ministry of Health has decided to allow foreign nationals residing in India to register on the CoWin portal,” the ministry wrote in the statement.

“This initiative will ensure the safety of foreign nationals residing in India. It will also reduce the chances of further transfer of infection from non-vaccinated persons residing in India. It will also ensure overall protection from further transmission of coronavirus.”

Once the foreign nationals are registered on CoWIN, they will get a slot for vaccination.

The National COVID-19 Immunization Program, termed as the “largest vaccination campaign”, is being implemented in all states and union territories from January 16, 2021.

The vaccination program currently covers all citizens aged 18 years and above. As of August 9, 2021, India has delivered more than 51 crore vaccine doses across the country.
