Under-19 cricket has not happened since March 2020 and with four months left for the Junior World Cup, BCCI has started preparations for it.

With the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 just a few months away, the BCCI has reportedly started the process of creating a team for the marquee event. West Indies will host the Junior World Cup for the first time, in which around 16 teams will take part next year.
With the coronavirus pandemic in the cricket calendar since March 2020, Under-19 cricket has suffered the most without a match since the Under-19 World Cup held in South Africa last year, where Bangladesh defeated India in the final. Become a champion
According to a report in The Times of India, The BCCI will organize two Under-19 domestic tournaments, including the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and a Challenger Trophy, to start the identification of players for the World Cup. The programs will start from the second fortnight of September.
“The board usually arranges for several Under-19 series to prepare a crop of Under-19 cricketers for the World Cup – both domestic and overseas. The pandemic has disrupted the normal process. It is important for young boys to have some international experience,” the daily quoted an unnamed BCCI official as saying,
Apart from this, BCCI will also host an Under-19 four-team tournament in which two Indian sides will participate apart from defending world champions Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
“Bangladesh U-19 cricket has a tough opposition. The players will be tested with the help of this tournament.”
The names of the junior national selectors are also expected to be finalized by the first week of September.
11 teams from the last Under-19 World Cup have been given an automatic berth for the 2022 event, while the remaining five places will be filled by the winners of the regional qualifying tournament.
