Eight people, including two women, died and several others were injured when they fell into a drain while addressing a road show by Leader of the Opposition Naidu on Wednesday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched a scathing attack on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu over the stampede tragedy and demanded an immediate apology from him.

Eight people, including two women, died and several others were injured when they fell into a drain while addressing Leader of Opposition Naidu’s roadshow on Wednesday. Police said on the basis of preliminary information that a large number of people gathered at the venue and during the meeting there was some scuffle between the people, which led to the stampede in the canal.

“Babu killed eight people for his political gains, it is very heinous and shameful. For photo shoots, for drone shots, even though there were fewer people, they pushed people into a narrow lane to show a larger number. They used their vehicle as a barricade and killed eight people… could it get any worse? ndtv At a public meeting in Narsipatnam this morning.

Referring to an incident that took place in 2015, Reddy claimed that Naidu had done this earlier as well, and was quoted as saying, “During the Godavari Pushkaralu in 2015, he caused the death of 29 people. This is nothing new to him. They only care about their publicity.”

Reddy also hit out at Naidu for allegedly mentioning the castes of those who lost their lives “for petty political gains”. Politics It means what a difference we are able to make to the families of farmers and socially marginalized groups.” ndtv as to say.

Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured and directed the officials to provide necessary assistance to the families of the victims, the statement said.

Expressing grief over the death of his party workers, Naidu had earlier said, “It is a sad incident. I feel very sad about it.” The TDP has also announced that it will give Rs 24 lakh each to the families of the eight people killed in the stampede.

Naidu immediately canceled the meeting and announced Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. He also visited the hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment. He also asked TDP leaders to ensure better treatment to the injured.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party general secretary and advisor to the government (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy in a statement blamed Naidu for the tragic incident. Addressing the media today, he said that Naidu “deliberately” held the rally in a narrow lane to capture visuals through drone shots to show huge turnout for his meeting.

However, Naidu’s “self-promotion mission” failed miserably and eight innocent people were “murdered” while several others were injured, he said.

“Why is Naidu trying to pin the blame on the officials when they are behind these ‘murders’? The truth is that the leader of the opposition has no value for life. He is using people for personal and political gains and nothing can be worse than this. People are watching and will teach them a lesson.

When contacted, Nellore Superintendent of Police Chowdhary Vijay Rao said that they have registered a case under section 174 of CrPC over the incident and investigation is underway. The official further said that the organizers of the meeting had taken permission to use only the sound system, but they took out a bike rally and parked two-wheelers near the meeting venue, leading to a crowd.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was saddened by the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
