Nuristan (Afghanistan): Death toll in last week’s floods Afghanistan‘s Kamdish District has risen to 113 with dozens still missing, tolo news The report, quoting an official, said 70 more were injured.
Heavy rains caused floods in Kamdish district on Wednesday Nuristan Province.
As reported by Tolo News, Minister of State for Natural Disaster Management Ghulam Bahauddin Jelani said, “Some are still missing… 12 km of road has been destroyed, 173 houses have been completely damaged.”
Some lawmakers in the province said flood-affected residents needed immediate assistance.
MPs claimed that Taliban obstructing the rescue work of the victims. But the Taliban has said it has stopped the infiltration of government forces into the flood-affected areas.
“People are in a critical situation. They need help urgently. They have lost everything,” said ismail atikana, an MP from Nuristan.
Nuristan Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayoom said that some of the affected families have been provided assistance by the government.
“Our teams have been sent. Based on their assessment, the flood-affected people need tents, beds and kitchen kits for their basic needs,” he said.
Last month, heavy rains and flash floods killed at least 12 people in parts of Afghanistan’s western province of Herat.
The floods also destroyed tens of residential homes and orchards in the districts and closed roads to traffic in several districts.
