At least five people were killed and 34 wounded in what Yemeni-state media reported on Wednesday night’s Houthi missile attack on the city of Marib, state news agency Sabah said on Friday.

A resident and a medical source said a missile had fallen next to a military building in the al-Matar area on Wednesday.

The city of Marib is the last northern stronghold of the Yemeni government. It sits in an energy-producing area that has been the focus of fighting for the past year, during which Iran-aligned Houthi forces advanced toward the city.

The battle for Marib has dashed UN-led ceasefire efforts as both sides intensify military operations.

Aid agency Save the Children said late Thursday that 28 civilians were killed or injured and that international law must be respected in Yemen’s seven-year conflict.

“Citizens must escape the horrors of the ongoing fighting,” it said in a Twitter post.

In the past few weeks, the Houthis have launched several missile and drone strikes on Saudi Arabia, which leads a coalition backing the government’s fight against the Houthis, and two unprecedented attacks on the United Arab Emirates, a coalition member.
