First Test, Day 2: India bowl out for 345 in first innings after lunch

India were bowled out for 345 on the second day just after the start of the second session of the first Test.

Umesh Yadav hit a six – the only scoring shot of the innings in the post-lunch session on the second day – before India were bowled out for 345, with New Zealand spinner Ejaz Patel falling for the last two wickets in the first Test. in Kanpur on Friday. Southee had a stellar performance in the morning session after India resumed their innings on Friday as he caught-back Ravindra Jadeja on his overnight score of 50. While the Kiwi pacer continued to pick up wickets from one end, Iyer took a wicket. Flooding boundaries and reaching his maiden Test century on debut, thus becoming the 16th Indian batsman to do so.

He hit 13 fours and two sixes before becoming the victim of Southee. Ravichandran Ashwin smashed five boundaries in his 38 and looked quite comfortable filling the gap before he was bowled by Ejaz in the post-lunch session. The left-arm spinner finished with 2/90 in 29.1 overs.

Kyle Jamieson took three for 91 while Will Somerville and debutant Rachin Ravindra could not take wickets after being used by their captain Kane Williamson today.

Apart from Iyer and Jadeja, Shubman Gill also contributed significantly during India’s innings by scoring 52 runs in 93 runs on Thursday.
