First death reported in Maharashtra from Delta Plus variant

After Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra now reported its first Covid-19 death linked to the Delta Plus variant. In Maharashtra, the Delta Plus variant has been detected in 21 Covid-19 positive patients. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that among them, an 80-year-old woman with co-morbidity succumbed to the disease on Friday.

According to the Union Health Ministry, 40 cases of Delta Plus classified as a Type of Concern (VOC) have been detected in India so far. These cases have been reported in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. Out of the total cases, two patients have succumbed to the delta plus version of the coronavirus – one each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
