A case has been registered against three persons, including UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, who along with party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sat on a dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue here, police said on Saturday. Lucknow Police Commissioner DK Thakur said that a case has been registered for sitting on a dharna without permission and damaging public property without prior information.

Gandhi along with other party members protested in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at GPO Park on Friday on a two-day visit to Lucknow. Police said Congress workers damaged an iron mesh structure located at GPO Park during the protest and violated the Epidemic Act.

“An FIR has been registered against UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, Congress leaders Ved Prakash Tripathi and Diljit Singh and 500-600 unidentified party workers. Thakur told PTI that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is not named in the FIR. UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh said that Gandhi sat on a silent dharna to expose the atrocities on women, the administration and police anarchy.

Women are not safe in the state. Lallu said on Saturday that Priyankaji sat on a fast of silence at the feet of Mahatma Gandhi to end this jungle raj and overthrow this dictatorial government. .
