The cricketer made his 50-over debut last year with some impressive scores against Ireland and the West Indies but quickly went on a downward spiral.

I am worried about the style of cricketers we are trying to groom. I want to create Devon Conway, I want to create Kane Williamson, who has craft and can bat and has more than one (skill),” Cumming told SENZ Morning on Thursday.

“Finn Allen at the moment, he’s young, he’s learning but he’s in a really important position at the top of the order for us and he seems to be a one-pace, one-line hitter at the moment.

“At the moment it’s failing and maybe the Finn is getting experience, I mean they’ll have to stick with him, but he’s not producing enough at the moment.” Cumming compared Allen to India skipper Rohit Sharma, who is not only a strong hitter of the ball but also has the skills required to play according to the situation.

“You look at Rohit Sharma and the way they (India) play, yes they are powerful but there is also skill in the way they execute their plans. I worry at the moment that something like Finn is thrown into the mix where it’s a pace, it’s a batter, it’s a baseball style mindset; Try to hit a home run and that’s what we want.”
