An “absolutely different” German men’s hockey team without some of its senior players arrived on Tuesday to face hosts India in a FIH Pro League doubleheader on Thursday and Friday.

The world number six team is currently second in the Pro League table with 17 points from eight matches.
German head coach Andre Henning said that many of his players will make their international debut against India at the Kalinga Stadium.
“We are here with a young team … a completely different team. It is a special moment for most people as they are making their India debut here,” Henning said.
“Hence, it is a wonderful opportunity to receive your first cap in one of the best stadiums in the hockey country and in the world.
“We had to leave some people home because of the Euro Hockey League (EHL). To be honest it will be tough, but we are competitive and good enough to be surprised.”
On the other hand, India are on top with 21 points from 10 matches. He won the historic medal after 41 years after beating Germany 5-4 in the bronze play-off at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
Reflecting on his Pro League campaign so far, Henning said, “17 points in eight games is pretty good, but I think we still have to improve. I’m still not happy with the way we played the whole time.” Am.

“He has shown some extremely strong performances and has improved on the pitch, which shows his results. I think it’s no big surprise that they are so successful at the moment, and of course, they are extremely difficult to beat.”
