The Shiv Sena, in an editorial in its mouthpiece, has said controversial issues like the hijab are taken up keeping the elections in mind and will be wrapped up after elections are over in five states, only to be revived after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections come to a close. Talking to reporters, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that people are getting used to this pattern of reviving old issues before the elections. People were flowing and going with the flow “like dead bodies in the Ganges (during the COVID-19 pandemic)”, he said.
The Shiv Sena said that issues related to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, Pakistan and terrorism will be revived before the 2024 elections. The editorial in Saamana also rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that election results in five states, including the crucial Uttar Pradesh, were indicative of the outcome of the 2024 general elections. Though the BJP has won assembly elections in four states, it (results) will have no bearing on the Lok Sabha elections (2024). The fight for the country (general elections) will happen in 2024.”
The Uddhav Thackeray-led party said the BJP is benefiting from the lack of a strong leadership in the opposition ranks and will “sweat” if an all-acceptable leadership emerges by 2024. “It is true that there is no match for it. Presently headed by Prime Minister Modi. Modi-Shah and their entire team ruthlessly enter the electoral battle. Such electoral warfare skills are rarely seen these days. BJP does not reach elections to win and defeat its opponents, its intention is to completely wipe out opponents,” the editorial claimed.
Such an approach is detrimental to parliamentary democracy, the editorial said, adding that such one-party politics is affecting the functioning of investigative agencies. “If the investigative agencies are used as political puppets, the two main pillars of the judiciary and the executive will collapse. The party said that there would be no point in contesting elections if these two key pillars of democracy are used as political puppets or agents, adding that people also doubted the neutrality of the Election Commission.
The Shiv Sena said the BJP recently won assembly elections in four states due to “polarization and eyewitnesses”, and claimed that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s UP election campaign helped polarize Hindu votes (in favor of the BJP). .
