Formula 1 is fast becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the world and in line with its cutting edge innovation, F1 has introduced another major innovation that could change the landscape of F1 broadcasting.

The helmet cam or ‘driver’s eye’, which was first seen during the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, is now set to become a norm.

The FIA ​​has reportedly officially approved helmet cams for all 20 drivers for every race in the upcoming 2023 F1 campaign.

Over the years F1 has introduced graphics and other innovative additions such as F1 TV to bring fans closer to the pits however, the driver’s eye will give viewers a never before seen experience from inside the beasts racing at breathtaking speeds.

Fernando Alonso was the first driver to do his alpine drive through Eau Rouge, giving his fans a unique perspective through his Bell-branded helmet, and since then some other drivers have also used cameras on several instances.

For the upcoming 2023 campaign, however, Formula 1 is set to introduce a ‘driver’s eye’ for all racers.

According to a tweet by Joe Pampliano, the FIA ​​has approved the use of helmet cams for every driver in every race from the upcoming season.

Earlier, Giuliano Duchessa also revealed on Twitter that Formula 1 Racing had reached an agreement with Force Group, an industry leader in motorsports safety.

It was reported that both parties had agreed a deal, under which Racing Force Group would supply helmet cams to all drivers and helmet suppliers.

The ‘Driver’s Eye’ is an FIA-approved micro camera that measures 8 millimeters in diameter and weighs just 1.43 grams.

Previously, the Helmet Cam featured only on Bell helmets, the sole property of Racing Force Group.

However, F1 had to sign an agreement with the company to ensure that all drivers could have the Helmet Cam installed without having to switch to Bell helmets.

The new innovation will give viewers an exceptionally immersive picture of how the driver sees the racing track in real time.

There will be plenty of unique broadcast footage available during the upcoming 2023 F1 campaign if all 20 drivers test the helmet cams.
