Hyderabad: A Maoist-couple surrendered before the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, fearing the spread of coronavirus among the Maoist cadre Telangana on Saturday.
Police said Surendra, a field committee member of Manuguru LOS (Local Organization Squad) and his wife, a dalam member of Manuguru LOS, self-quarantined.
Police said that both were at risk of their lives due to harassment by the Maoist leadership and the spread of coronavirus among the cadre.
Due to the recent death of Member of Central Committee (CCM) Hari Bhushan and some others due to COVID-19 Bhadradri Kothagudem district superintendent of police Sunil Dutt said that fear has been created among the Maoists.
The SP said that the negligence and human rights violations of the Maoist party cadre by the members of the Central Committee and other senior party leaders were the reasons for leaving the banned outfit of the cadre.
The senior police officer appealed to all the Maoists to surrender.
The police have said, “We will ensure their proper treatment and rehabilitation as per the policy of the government.”
Police said Surendra and his wife, aged 23, had been working for the banned CPI (Maoist) party since 2018 and 2016 respectively and were currently working as guards of Azad, a member of Telangana State Committee.
On Friday, landmines planted by Naxalites to hit a police post in the Koppusuru forest area of ​​Mulugu district were safely dug up and defused during a joint operation by the police and the CRPF.
Police said the operation was launched on the basis of information that Maoist leader Bade Choka Rao alias Damodar and other senior leaders of CPI (Maoist) party’s Telangana State Committee, Dalam members and militia had planted landmines.
Police said that a case has been registered after confiscating the explosives and materials used for making landmines including detonators, black slurry, electric wires, small bolts and tiffin boxes from the spot.
