The FBI raided the apartments of Project Veritas operative Spencer Meads and the conservative outlet’s Westchester office after receiving a stolen diary from President Biden’s daughter Ashley in the week before the 2020 election.
Project Veritas did not publish the diary, as founder James O’Keefe said in a video released Friday that the group could not confirm the diary’s authenticity, whether it pertained to Ashley Biden or whether the diary’s contents were true.
According to the New York Times, the investigation, ordered by the Department of Justice (DOJ), was carried out in Manhattan by both federal investigators and federal prosecutors.

O’Keefe said Project Veritas was offered the diary by tipsters, who said the daughter of the then Democratic nominee had left her in a room where she stayed and that the tipsters followed her. O’Keefe said tipsters said they were buying it around other outlets to see who would offer money for it.
O’Keefe then claimed that once he got hold of the magazine, he attempted to return it to a lawyer representing Ashley. The lawyer refused to authenticate the diary, so he said he handed it over to law enforcement.
But another conservative news site published the full 112-page diary on October 28, 2020, a week before the election. It was largely ignored by the media and other conservative news sites, who doubted its authenticity. However, the Justice Department’s involvement raises the possibility that the writing actually belongs to the First Daughter.
The website claimed to have obtained the diary from a whistleblower who worked for a media organization that refused to publish the story.
Ashley has kept a much lower profile than her half-brother Hunter, whose business deals were settled by former President Trump at the time of the diary’s publication.
Last year, the DOJ launched an investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes.

One of these raids was conducted at the Project Veritas office in Mamaronek, NY, north of New York City.
O’Keefe said in the video that Project Veritas had received a grand jury summons and that the DOJ had ordered, but not ordered, the group not to disclose the existence of the summons. O’Keefe said he did not know who leaked the raid in the New York Times.

Covert investigations and covert recordings of Project Veritas have targeted media outlets such as Democrats, Planned Parenthood, CNN and the Washington Post, Facebook and even Pfizer-BioNtech.
At one point, former British spy Richard Seddon was recruited to train activists in Project Veritas.
Seddon owns a company, Branch Six Consulting International, which is registered at an address in Sheridan, VA. Flyover Media, the company that has the website that publishes the diary, is registered at the same address.
The founder of Project Veritas was once the president of a company registered at the same address.
Project Veritas is currently suing the New York Times for defamation over a video published on allegations of voter fraud. The Times described the video as “misleading” and full of “misinformation”.
