The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two boys in connection to the case of double suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad. The bodies of two girls were found hanging from a tree outside a village in Farrukhabad on Tuesday. The two boys who have been arrested are Deepak and Pawan, who are believed to have been in a romantic relationship with the deceased girls.

Police said that the girls found out that both the boys were cheating on them with other girls and hence they killed themselves. The arrested duo will be taken to the court on Saturday.

According to the family members, the two girls aged 15 and 18, went to attend a Janmashtami programme on Monday evening, but did not return. Later, on Tuesday morning, their bodies were found hanging in a mango orchard.

The necks of the two girls were tied at each end of the ‘dupatta’ which went across the tree.

While police, on the basis of findings and post-mortem report, said the deaths were a case of double suicide, the family members allege that the minors were murdered.

Following the incident, Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded a swift investigation into the case by the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government and said such incidents create a horrific atmosphere in the society.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said security is the right of every daughter of India and justice is the right of every suffering family. The Congress MP shared a video of the father of the victim where he said the entire investigation so far is “fake”.
