The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Wednesday announced that farmers protesting against the Centre’s three agricultural laws will observe Independence Day as ‘Kisan Mazdoor Azadi Sangram Diwas’ and take out a tricolor march across the country.
In a statement, the SKM, which is an amalgamation of 40 farmer unions, said, “Farmers and workers will take out a tricolor march to the block, tehsil, district headquarters or to their nearest Kisan Morcha or dharna on August 15”.
This march will be taken out with the national flag on cycles, bikes, carts, tractors etc.
Here the SKM also reiterated its earlier decision that no “official flag hoisting ceremony” or “march with the national flag” would be protested by the farmers till August 15.
However, its decision to boycott BJP leaders and its allies will continue for all other political and government activities.
During the ongoing “Kisan Sansad”, which completed its 10th day on Wednesday, farmers here passed resolutions against three black laws as well as the proposed Bill on Air Pollution and the Electricity Amendment Bill.
The mock parliament also saw farmers presenting a “bill” providing legal guarantees on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce.
During the discussion various speakers highlighted the failure of the existing system in offering remunerative price or cost price to the farmers.
The Kisan Sansad is being organized by farmers who have been protesting against the Centre’s three controversial agriculture laws at several borders in Delhi since November last year.
More than 10 rounds of talks with the government, which is pitching the laws as major agricultural reforms, have failed to break the deadlock between the two sides.
As part of these Kisan Sansad sessions, 200 farmers from protest sites participate in a mock session of Parliament at Jantar Mantar, in which issues related to the farming community are discussed.
