Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Devendra Singh said a judicial inquiry into the August 28 incident would be conducted by a retired high court judge.

He said the probe would be completed within a month and Sinha would be on leave during this period.

The Additional Chief Secretary further said that the meeting between government officials and farmer leaders took place in a positive atmosphere.

Stating that it was an “honorable settlement”, he called the farmers “our brothers”.

The additional chief secretary also said that two members of the family of a farmer would be given jobs, who the protesters claimed died after being injured during the lathi charge.

Haryana government will give jobs to two members of the family of deceased farmer Satish Kajal on approved posts in Karnal at DC rate.

After the agreement was reached between the two sides, Haryana government officials and farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni held a joint press conference in Karnal.

In a joint press conference, Chaduni said that they would end their dharna outside Karnal district headquarters.

Commenting on the Karnal Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), he said that the farmers had demanded that an FIR be registered against him and the police personnel involved in the August 28 incident.

“But if the FIR is registered after investigation by a retired judge of the High Court, there is neither any chance of quashing it nor to influence the investigation,” he said.

Chaduni further said that he had demanded jobs for two members of the family of deceased farmer Satish Kajal, which was accepted by the administration.

Earlier on August 28, at least 10 protesters were injured in a clash with police personnel in Karnal when they tried to march towards the venue of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meeting.

The Karnal SDM was caught on tape allegedly telling policemen to “break the heads” of farmers if they cross the border.

The farmers were demanding suspension of the 2018 batch IAS officer.
