Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni on Saturday floated his political party Samyukta Sangharsh Party and said it would contest the Punjab Assembly elections next year.

Chaduni is a member of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 agricultural unions, which led the farmers’ agitation for over a year against three central agricultural laws, which have been repealed. Addressing the media here, he said, “We are starting the Samyukta Sangharsh Party.”

Chaduni said the party would contest the Punjab Assembly elections, which are due early next year. Chaduni, president of Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union, said, “Our aim will be to purify politics and bring good people forward.” Criticizing the political leaders, he said that they make policies in favor of the capitalists, ignoring the interests of the poor.

The Samyukta Sangharsh Party will be secular, he said and added that it will work for the welfare of all sections of the society. Replying to a question, Chaduni said that he would not contest the upcoming elections in Punjab.

Replying to another question, he said his party would try to contest all the 117 seats in the state. Chaduni, who fought for ‘Mission Punjab’, has been asking farmers’ organizations of the state to contest the upcoming elections.
