Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is calling on the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate India’s demand for an immediate safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and other conflict-zone cities.

Russia opened fire on the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, on Tuesday and damaged various installations there. Russian troops also surrounded Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Tuesday and asked civilians to leave the city immediately.

“All citizens of the city can freely leave the Ukrainian capital along the Kyiv-Vasilkiv highway. This direction is open and safe,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov. Soon after, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine asked the stranded citizens to leave Kyiv immediately by any means necessary.

โ€œAll Indian nationals including students are advised to leave Kyiv immediately today. Preferably by available trains or by any other available means,โ€ the Embassy of India said in an advisory.

Russian and Ukrainian troops continued fighting in the Kharkiv streets as Russian President Vladimir Putin entered the war on the fifth day after a military operation was called.
