Falguni Encroachment: MCC for fencing of river banks | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: Mangaluru Municipal Corporation (MCC) lodged police complaint, and have decided to fence NS Phalguni River Bank in Bangrakulur, in view of the alleged Encroachment NS river bed.
Despite awareness and warnings from the authorities, debris continued to be dumped on the banks of the river Falguni on the stretch between Bagrakulur and Kulur in the city. Nearly two acres of river beds have been turned into landfills by people flouting rules and dumping debris including plastic waste. While the violation has been going on for several months, the MCC has finally taken the issue seriously.
MCC commissioner Akshay Sridhari Told TOI that the municipal corporation will take necessary steps to protect the river. “We have filed a complaint against the dumping of debris on the banks of the river at Kavoor police station on Saturday. Prima facie, it looks like an attempt to encroach on the river bank. I have discussed the issue with the Regional Director of the Department of Environment. We have decided to act as per the law. To prevent such encroachments in future, a joint survey will be conducted to locate the banks of the Falguni river and the banks of the Falguni river at Bangarakuloor. We will put up fencing at identified places along the river to prevent debris from falling.
He said that the MCC also plans to install CCTV cameras on this route so that vehicles carrying debris can be identified along the river banks.
