Fakhar Zaman, Sarfaraz Ahmed Included

Pakistan Cricket The Board (PCB) on Friday confirmed the three changes made to the squad of fifteen by the national selectors for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Oman and the UAE from October 17 to November 14.

From the original squad announced on 4 September, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali have replaced Azam Khan and Mohammad Hasnain respectively. Opener Fakhar Zaman, who was originally designated as a traveling reserve, has exchanged places with Khushdil Shah.

“After reviewing the player’s performance in the highly competitive National T20 and in consultation with the team management, we have decided to include Haider Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Sarfaraz Ahmed in the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. All three forms “The players bring with them a wealth of experience and talent, and provide the side with further stability, balance and strength,” chief selector Mohammad Wasim said in a statement.

“It will be tough to miss for Azam, Khushdil and Hasnain but they still have a lot to offer in their careers. They are in our future plans as there is a lot of cricket to be played in the lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia,” said Wasim, who featured in 18 Tests and 25 Tests in Australia. The PCB also said that the decision to include Sohaib Maqsood in the team will be taken after medical advice. Top-order batsman Maqsood had an MRI scan of his lower back after the national T20 match against North on October 6 and missed the Punjab derby against Central Punjab on Thursday.

“I am happy with the intensity and high quality of cricket that we have seen in the National T20. Not only has this provided players with excellent match practice in the lead-up to the UAE competition, it has given us the opportunity to closely monitor player progress and then make decisions that are in the best interest of the side for what will happen. Cut throat tournament,” concluded Wasim.

Meanwhile, the team for the men’s T20 World Cup will participate in a seven-day training and conditioning camp under bio-secure protocols at the National High-Performance Center and LCCA Ground in Lahore from Sunday. On Friday, the squad members along with their family members will join the bio-secure and undergo COVID-19 test on arrival.

After the negative tests return, the players will be allowed to start their preparation with gym sessions at NHPC from Sunday. Training sessions will be held at the LCCA Grounds on 11th and 12th October. With no activity on 13 October, the team will play the match under lights on 14 October. The team will leave for Dubai on October 15.
