What is end-to-end encryption
End-to-end encryption or E2EE is a privacy feature that ensures that only you and the person you are communicating with can read or hear what is sent, and no one in between, Not even the company. In simple words, your data is protected with a lock, and only the recipient and you have the special key needed to unlock and read them.
Recently, the company also announced that chat backups of WhatsApp users on Android and iOS platforms are now end-to-end encrypted. Users can now protect their chat backups with a password of their choice or a 64-digit encryption key that only they know.
The company had already added end-to-end encryption to one-on-one text chats in 2016. The plan to add E2EE for voice and video calls on Messenger was announced by the tech giant in August this year.
