Face-off at Idgah ground in Bengaluru, Hindu groups call for bandh; Friday not a Sunday holiday in Jharkhand schools; More

The sprawling Idgah ground in the heart of Chamarajpet, one of Bengaluru’s oldest localities, has been embroiled in a land ownership dispute between the Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf for more than three weeks. , With no end to the standoff at the beleaguered playground, Chamarajpet Nagarikakara Okkuta Vedike has called for a Chamarajpet bandh on July 12 with the aim of ‘saving the playground’.

In two wards of Jharkhand’s Jamtara district, students of primary schools are being given holiday on Friday instead of Sunday, citing Muslim population in such schools.

These schools are being closed under the guise of a notification allowing Urdu schools to remain closed on Friday. The state government has ordered an inquiry in this regard.
