F1: Fernando Alonso undergoes surgery to remove plate from jaw – India Times Hindi News – Henry Club

Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso had surgery last February to remove a titanium plate in his jaw after a road accident while cycling.

The 40-year-old alpine driver, speaking during the weekend’s virtual Le Mans 24 Hours race, said he had an operation last week.

The Spaniard recently said he needed to prepare better for the new campaign than in 2021, when he returned after two years.

“The accident with the bicycle in February didn’t help last year,” he said.

“We need to go to winter testing with a good schedule, both physically and in the car. And if the car is competitive, I’m 100% sure I’ll be there.

Alonso, a two-time Le Mans winner with Toyota, was the non-driving captain of the Alpine esports team at the virtual endurance event.

Formula One world champion Max Verstappen took part but the Red Bull driver, who had missed pole position, crashed after seven hours while his team was leading the redline entry.

The virtual race was won by the Realteam Hydrogen Redline organization, whose line-up included Brazilian Formula Two racer Felipe Dragovich and British Formula E driver Oliver Rowland, as well as professionals Jeffrey Rietveld and Michael Schmidt.

It was broadcast live on YouTube, Twitch and Facebook, with racers using the rFactor2 platform and competing on simulators from around the world.
