He said that initially APEDA had focused only on Agriculture Producer Organizations of Varanasi, but now the produce is being procured from FPOs at Bhadohi and Prayagraj. He said that from these FPOs 1 metric tonne fresh ladyfinger and 1 metric ton other vegetables including bitter guard, spiked guard, elephant foot and others were procured and dispatched on Air India Express flight.
APEDA officials said agri-exports suffered a setback after international flights became non-operational. As soon as the flight started, APEDA coordinated the shipment, he said, adding that APEDA has also started coordinating with exporters for more consignments.
Singh said, so far around 1,000 metric tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables and about 10,000 metric tonnes of regional rice from eastern UP have been exported. The measures initiated by APEDA led to the discovery of new export destinations including Bangladesh, Vietnam and Iran, followed by Dubai and London.
APEDA also ensured exploration of Gulf and London markets for fresh Banarasi Langra, Dussehri, Chausa and Ramkeda mangoes in 2020. A consignment of 80 metric tonnes of black rice produced by the farmers. Chandauli Also exported to Australia followed by another consignment to Doha (Qatar).
