Explained: India and Pakistan at Loggerheads Regarding Asia Cup 2023 Hosting

There are a few ways to approach this question. The simplest way, taking into account the current impasse, would require only one word: unlikely. At least not ever.

The BCCI has always maintained that they have no intention of going to Pakistan for the tournament. Furthermore, the venue of the tournament is mentioned in the ACC’s two-year calendar, indicating that there has been no discussion on the matter in the past few months.

However, it could be a significant economic loss for Pakistan. With international teams now visiting the country again, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarding them the hosting rights for the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, the Asia Cup would have promoted the gradual return of international cricket to Pakistan.

PCB’s new chairman, Sethi also took a dig at Shah after the announcement of the calendar, saying, “Thank you, @JayShah for unilaterally presenting the @ACCMedia1 structure and calendar 2023-24 especially relating to the Asia Cup 2023 which Pakistan is the event host. While you are at it, you can also submit our PSL 2023 structure and calendar! A quick response would be appreciated.

For now, we have to wait for the ACC meeting to be held in February. It remains to be seen whether the two sides can reach an amicable solution.
