Explained at the Expo why Ahmedabad is called ‘Mecca of Architecture’

Prominent architects from Ahmedabad displayed their works at CREDAI Ahmedabad House on Monday as part of World Architecture Day celebrations.

The first two day exhibition of its kind named “Ahmedabad Collective” was organized by the Indian Institute of Architects. 20 architecture firms in the city including BV Doshi’s Vastu Shilpa, Dr. Bimal Patel’s HCP, Parulben Zaveri’s Abhikram, Gurjit Matharu’s Matharu Associates, Associated Architects Bhavik Nandi, Vatsal Joshi, Rizwan Qadri and Mayank Ghedia and Modo Design by Arpan Shah Huh . , showcased both its completed as well as ongoing projects in and outside Ahmedabad.

“This is the first attempt to be on a collective platform and create awareness among the general public on why Ahmedabad is called the Mecca of Architecture in India. Despite having a small community of professionals, architects shape the city,” IIA Ahmedabad Chapter President Vatsal Joshi said.

An interaction session was also organized for some of the architects participating in the exhibition as well as for the students and architecture aspirants.
IIA, the national body of architects, is a century-old organization based in Mumbai, with centers across India.
