With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections done and dusted in the world’s largest democracy, former CM and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan witnessed an incredible victory in his name, winning by a massive margin of 8,21,408 votes against Congress’ Pratap Bhanu Sharma from Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a five-time MP and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, secured his sixth parliamentary victory in the Vidisha constituency, amassing a total of 11,16,460 votes, as reported by the Election Commission of India.
With the election results now out, the focus has shifted to the formation of the new government. In this context, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussed various significant issues in an exclusive interview with Anurradha Prasad, Editor-in-Chief of News24. When asked about the win, he said that each and every person involved with the party worked hard to get this ‘amazing’ win for themselves.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan On BJP Getting Lesser Seats This Year
Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also asked about what could be the reason for the decrease in vote share in other states which saw BJP get lesser number of seats than they did last time around. Answering to the question, Shivraj Singh said that not every election can be the same and the number of seats will decrease or increase every time. He focused on the overall performance from the party which saw them obtain 240 seats in the nation.
Chouhan also mentioned that reaching close to 300+ seats for a third time in a row is an achievement in itself for his party.
The Vidisha constituency is regarded as Chouhan’s stronghold, where he achieved victories in the 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004 Lok Sabha elections, consistently competing against Congress candidates.
In 2005, the 65-year-old politician became the president of the BJP’s Madhya Pradesh unit and was sworn in as Chief Minister the same year. He held this position until the 2023 state assembly elections, with the exception of a brief 15-month period when the Congress took office following the 2018 elections. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, affectionately known as ‘Mama’ (maternal uncle), joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the BJP, at the age of 13.
