European official: EU nations likely to keep missile sanctions on Iran

A European official said on Tuesday that he expected there would be no difficulty in persuading EU countries to keep ballistic missile sanctions on Iran that are due to expire in October.

The official also said he sees an opportunity to negotiate a de-escalating nuclear deal with Iran by the end of 2023.

“We may have an opportunity to try to resume discussions with them before the end of the year … on (a) return to the JCPOA or at least a de-escalation agreement,” the official told reporters in Washington. ” Speaking on the condition of anonymity. The JCPOA is a defunct 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
