Should the drama have stopped?
Moments before Raheem Sterling won the penalty, fans have noticed the appearance of the second ball on the pitch and now ask why the play was not stopped immediately.
The England vs Denmark Euro 2020 semi-final clash will be remembered for more than one reason. In addition to making history by reaching their maiden Euro final, the competition also faced a series of controversies that continue to anger fans on social media.
Many experts have already questioned the referee’s call to penalize England after a foul on Raheem Sterling in extra time, which resulted in Harry Kane winning. However, just before Kane’s spot-kick was delivered, someone in the Wembley crowd began shining a laser into Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s face.
However, Schmeichel was unimpressed as he kept his cool to save the penalty but could not stop Kane from scoring on the rebound as England won 2-1.
But but but. Just before Sterling stepped into the danger zone, eagle-eyed fans noticed the appearance of an extra ball on the field. And demanding why the referee didn’t stop the play.

There is a simple explanation behind the referee’s continuation of play – the ball was not directly interfering with the path of play and hence a call or no-call.
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmund, however, questioned the rationale behind imposing the penalty against his team, saying the decision meant they were leaving the tournament on a bitter note.
“I don’t see it as a punishment. It’s quite obvious that he (Sterling) lets his leg hang and falls. I know it’s a bit… but I can’t help feeling it Maybe it’s tough,” Hazulmand said.
“One thing is to lose a game. it happens. But like this. I think it is a pity and a pity for the people because they have put everything at stake. It is bitter. We may need some time to put all this in the right perspective, but this is a bitter way to leave the tournament.”
England will face Italy in the final on Sunday.
