Euro 2020: England fans slammed for abusive behavior during Germany clash

Euro 2020 Round of 16 took fans across the world to witness some exciting and jaw-dropping moments. One such example was when former world champion Germany . the latest high-profile casualty of euro 2020 after suffering 2-0 defeat at the hands of England at the iconic Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.

It was the Three Lions’ first knockout win against Die Manshaft in 55 years – their second European Championship knockout win since their 1966 World Cup final victory and in half a century. Over 40,000 fans watched their national side progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020. However, the knockout match had its share of bad crowd moments from the start.

A section of the domestic crowd reacted strongly during the German national anthem. Fans usually show great respect when the national anthem is played before the start of the game.

While the experienced German players remained unfazed by the raucous behavior of the fans. German striker Thomas Müller also posed for the camera during the national anthem. Nevertheless, fans have been slammed for his abusive behavior.

While the excitement before the match seems evident, many users took to the comments section to condemn the unruly behavior of the fans. Many said it was “absolutely embarrassing”, “embarrassing” and “awful”.

Gareth Southgate’s men advanced to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals after a 75th-minute goal from Raheem Sterling. Harry Kane’s first strike of the tournament soon doubled the lead.

However, the ugly behavior of the crowd came to the fore once again when the match was still at fever pitch. Germany placed Thomas Müller close to stoppage time, and as Müller was leaving the field, a Wembley cameraman focused on a young German girl who was consoled by her parents.

As the scenes unfolded on the big screen inside the stadium, the crowd of the house erupted with joy and jubilation. The video is currently unavailable, but netizens once again slammed fans for not feeling sorry for the little girl.

One user wrote, “It’s not sporty to cheer a seven year old German girl crying.” Another user commented that England’s “greatest football achievement in 55 years” is making a little girl cry.

While a third user commented that England would face the same fate “if they lose to Ukraine”.

England will face in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020. The match will take place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
