Ahmedabad: At least five laborers died after entering an effluent treatment plant.ETPTanks at a pharmaceutical firm at Khatraj GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) in Gandhinagar on Saturday afternoon, police officials said.

Inspector-in-Charge of Santej Police MG Jadeja The workers died inside an ETP tank at Tutson Pharma Pvt Ltd in Plot No 10 of Block No 58 near Olympic Laminated in Khatraj, said.
Jadeja said, “The incident happened around 1.30 pm on Saturday when the workers entered the ETP tank to repair the pipes.”
He said, “First, two laborers entered the tank and when they did not respond or return for a few minutes, three others barged inside to check on them. But they too died inside the tank.”
Jadeja said that it appears that he died of suffocation due to some poisonous gas inside the tank.
Police sources said that none of the laborers were wearing protective equipment to enter the ETP tank.
The fire brigade personnel and the firm’s staff members took out the bodies of the workers and put them on the blankets that the deceased carried with them.
Santej Police has currently registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is on.
A police officer said that the contractor and the owner of the firm, who brought the laborers to the spot, would be questioned.
On August 26, three sanitation workers were killed when they entered a sewer in Bopal area of ​​Ahmedabad.
